Martial Arts: The Antidote to Toxic Masculinity and Manosphere in South Asian Community.

The internet, especially online groups called the “manosphere,” is having a big impact on young boys, but what is the impact on the young South Asian community in St Albans.

Shows like the Netflix series Adolescence and Gareth Southgate’s speech about being a man have shown us this is a worry.

Many young men are trying to figure out who they are, and they might look up to people online who teach bad ideas about being a man. These ideas are often negative and angry and don’t fit in line with our culture, community or religion.

But there’s a slight movement, a group of people who are looking to support them through different means. One such person is Syed Hussain, founder and lead instructor at Tiger Academy.

In his recent blog post, he tackles and explains how learning to fight can teach young men to be disciplined, genuinely confident, and respectful, instead of being drawn into harmful online groups.

As the Head Coach of Tiger Fight Academy, Syed sees firsthand how Muay Thai and martial arts can be a game-changer in a young man’s life. He says, “We are raising a generation where too many boys lack discipline, confidence, and strong male role models who teach resilience and respect. If we truly want to steer them away from toxic ideologies, we need to offer them something better.”

Discipline Over Delusion

The manosphere thrives on victimhood, convincing young men that the world is against them. In contrast, Muay Thai instills a warrior’s mindset, where success is earned through sweat, hard work, and perseverance. There are no shortcuts in the gym; you learn that growth comes from pushing through discomfort, not blaming others.

Confidence Through Competence

Boys fall into toxic online spaces because they feel powerless. The manosphere offers them a false sense of strength by tearing others down, but martial arts build true confidence. When a boy learns to throw a proper strike, defend himself, and push past his limits, he gains real self-worth—without needing to adopt an aggressive or misogynistic attitude.
