Mini Mela Magic Brings South Asian Heritage to Life in St Albans

The Mini Mela St Albans event brought colour, culture, and community spirit to the St Albans Museum + Gallery on Saturday 17th August 2024. The day was a highlight of South Asian Heritage Month, celebrating the rich traditions of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

A celebration of culture and connection

Visitors enjoyed a lively mix of activities that showcased South Asian culture. Inside the museum, the Adda Club created a welcoming space where guests could take part in Carom, a much-loved board game played across South Asia. The sound of laughter and friendly competition filled the Assembly Room as families and friends joined in the fun.

Showcasing Bangladeshi heritage in the Charter Market

Out in the Charter Market, the Adda Club hosted a fascinating Bangladeshi cultural display. The exhibit featured traditional clothes, maps, and handmade items, offering visitors a glimpse into the country’s history, geography, and craftsmanship. The vibrant display drew plenty of attention from market-goers, sparking conversations and curiosity about Bangladesh’s rich heritage.

St Albans Market joins the celebration

The South Asian Heritage Month stalls at St Albans Market added to the festive atmosphere. Local traders took part with colourful crafts, tasty treats, and displays celebrating South Asian creativity. The streets buzzed with excitement as residents and visitors explored the stalls and joined in the fun.
