New Urdu leaflet to improve access to services

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care have launched a Urdu-language leaflet, created with input from the community to help more people understand the hospice’s services and access support from the point of diagnosis.

The leaflet is part of the ongoing commitment They have made to inclusivity, ensuring that language is not a barrier to receiving information and support.

To develop the resource, Rennie Grove Peace, worked closely with local community members and organisations, including meetings with the Hertfordshire Asian Women’s Association (HAWA) and Safeena Muslim Cancer Support Network. These sessions focused on discussing the best approaches and content to make sure the final materials were clear, easy to understand, and relevant.

“From the very start, we wanted to involve the community in creating this resource. We spoke with local groups, patients, and families to understand what information they needed and the best way to present it. By listening to the people who will actually use our services, we’ve been able to produce a resource that truly supports families from the moment they need us, helping them feel informed, supported, and confident in reaching out.” Says Alison the, Community Engagement Manager.

Care that respects faith, culture, and wishes

The importance of culturally sensitive care is reflected in the experience of Mrs Begum, who stayed in the Rennie Grove Inpatient Unit in Watford. Her daughter, Sadia, shared how our team supported her mother’s spiritual needs:

“Mum grew up in Pakistan and was a devout Muslim. At this stage of her life, it was very important to us as a family to be able to pray with her.

“Mum had a lovely room in the Inpatient Unit. Having that private space meant we felt comfortable playing the Quran without worrying about disturbing anyone else. This made a huge difference to us as a family.

“It was also great to have the quiet room for visitors to pray if they wanted. It was a calm, clean space that helped Mum and our family feel supported.”

RGPH provide personalised care across Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, respecting individual beliefs, cultures, and wishes.

The new Urdu leaflet is available for patients, families, and community partners.
